Chaotic enhancement of hydrogen atoms excitation in magnetic and microwave fields
We numerically investigate multiphoton ionization of excited hydrogen atoms in magnetic and microwave fields when up to NI = 600 photons are required for ionization. The analytical estimates for the quantum localization length in the classically chaotic regime are in agreement with numerical data. The excitation is much stronger as compared to the case with microwave field only due to the chaot...

– We draw and quantitatively support a parallel between conductance fluctuations in one-dimensional disordered solids and fluctuations of lifetimes of hydrogen atoms in microwave fields. In particular, we numerically analyze the statistics of scaled atomic resonance widths in the localized regime and we find a lognormal distribution, quantitatively consistent with the theory of Anderson localiz...

The localization phenomenon plays an essential role in the excitation of hydrogen atoms in microwave fields. The similarity of this phenomenon to Anderson localization, which has been established and discussed in previous papers, is here demonstrated in a transparent way by reducing the quantum dynamics to a one-dimensional pseudo-Anderson model. The effect of slight changes in the driving freq...
متن کاملMagnetic trapping of strongly-magnetized Rydberg atoms
Effective magnetic moments of drift Rydberg atoms in strong magnetic fields are obtained for different energy and angular-momentum states. Classical two-body trajectory calculations and quantummechanical one-body calculations are employed. For heavy atoms such as rubidium, the trapping dynamics can largely be explained by the net magnetic moment due to the cyclotron and the magnetron motion of ...
متن کاملMultiphoton ionization of hydrogen in parallel microwave and static fields: quantal and classical simulations
The ionization of hydrogen in strong microwave fields is a fundamental problem of atomic physics and nonlinear dynamics. When a strong static field is added parallel to a linearly polarized microwave field of comparable strength, transitions between dressed states take place simultaneously at several resonance frequencies. We present classical and quantal simulations of this intricate problem w...
